Preservation + Restoration
Much of the time, a home’s historic fabric has been compromised or adapted over the years to accommodate changing tastes or functions - and this is not necessarily a bad thing! However, when a client desires to restore or maintain that period charm, there are many avenues to explore bringing a past look back to life.
When necessary, we are able to adhere to the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation and Restoration for properties on the National Historic Register or designated local Historic Landmarks. In fact, it is an honor to work within these guidelines to maintain design integrity and restore equity in your investment!
Even if your home is not technically recognized as historic, we take great care in working with you on what you find most valuable and worth working around when discussing modernization or renovation. A big fear of homeowners is losing that vintage charm when adding onto the house or being told to “gut” the interior and start over. It may be easier to do so from a construction perspective, but there are many ways to be sensitive to existing conditions that don’t necessarily involve erasing the past.
